Dear Sudbury neighbors,
As a former public school teacher, current literacy advocate, and Sudbury resident, I fully endorse Karyn Jones in her candidacy for election to the Sudbury School Committee.
I met Karyn a few years ago when she volunteered her time to write a (successful) grant for a project I was working on at the Goodnow Library. Among her many qualifications, she is a passionate advocate for children, especially in the realm of equity and inclusion (we are both involved with the Sudbury SEPAC – Special Education Parent Advisory Council). Karyn is also one of the brave souls behind Sudbury Parents for After School Solutions, aiming to supplement the great work of SED and eliminate the terror of ending up on the waitlist, or generally having to throw up your hands if SED isn't the right fit for your child. Moreover, Karyn is a former financial engineer that through her professional and volunteer work has become deeply familiar with the workings of municipal finance.
In the three years Karyn has lived in Sudbury with her family, she’s built an impressive record of creating opportunities for Sudbury families–any of you that saw the news coverage of the Accessible Trick-or Treat event or that had a child that participated as a player or volunteer in the TOPSoccer program, know about her capacity for getting things done and welcoming the community into the process.
Karyn represents an essential voice that is currently missing from the School Committee. First and foremost, the youngest of her three children is just about to enter Kindergarten. At the most basic levels of motivation, this means her personal investment in the PreK-8 student experience has an eight-year lifespan, covering the full breadth of the elementary and middle school experience. I believe that to be an effective and impactful member of the School Committee, one of the most important criteria is to have children in SPS. A parent has first-hand knowledge of the day-to-day events taking place. This “real time” awareness of what Sudbury’s children encounter on a daily basis is invaluable and leads to better informed decisions on what is best for the Sudbury Public Schools as a whole.
Karyn’s community volunteerism, experience in quantitative analysis, ability to learn from and listen to others, and daily immersion in the lives of Sudbury Public students make her an excellent candidate for the School Committee. I truly believe her involvement will have a significant, positive impact on our children, our schools, and ultimately the entire Town of Sudbury.
Please join me in voting for Karyn Jones on March 25.
