You may wonder what Reformation Day is. It is a day when bonds were burst apart.
On that day in 1517, an obscure Augustinian monk, Martin Luther, nailed a document listing 95 theological propositions to a church door in Wittenburg, Germany. (Actually, nails were expensive, and he may well have used glue. But that’s a much less dramatic image!)
Brother Martin’s purpose was to challenge corrupt behavior in the church. He became a leading voice of the Protestant Reformation. Many denominations have their origins in the Reformation and they, along with Lutherans, celebrate Reformation Day.
We will be singing Luther’s great hymn, “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” — the original version with the lively rhythms. When sung this way, it is joyful and rousing. Please come sing it with us!
St. John is located at 16 Great Road in Sudbury, and our service is at 9:30. You can also join our service on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/@stjohnlutheransudbury3905). See you soon!
