The ‘vote of no confidence’ petition which has been submitted to the Sudbury Select Board to become an article at a future special town meeting, makes serious allegations of wrongdoing and misconduct by members of the School Committee, residents who were voted into office.
The petition alleges several serious concerns:
- An improper procurement process
- Open Meeting law violations
- Improper use of executive sessions
- A pattern of misconduct that has eroded public trust.
Fact: There has not been any instance, not even one, where any member of the current Sudbury School Committee has been found, by any state agency, including the Attorney General’s office, the Secretary of State’s office, any court, or any other administrative or adjudicatory body, to have violated any state law or regulation, or local bylaw, including but not limited to Mass. General Laws Chapter 268A, the so called Conflict Of Interest law.
The ‘no confidence’ petition is a series of unfounded allegations, baseless accusations, and unwarranted suggestions of misuse of public trust. It is simply political mudslinging.
If a resident is not happy with any member of the school committee, there is a remedy: It is called an election. That is how a respectful and civilized society deals with political differences of opinion.
The ‘no confidence’ petition is an ambush of your neighbors who had the courage to run for public office and were duly elected. If you don’t like the job they are doing, then the remedy is simple; at the next election, vote them out. That is how change is carried out in a democracy.
These kinds of muckraking petitions, without a valid factual basis, undermine confidence in elected officials, and devalue the work they are doing. It also discourages good people from running for office. Don’t let that happen.
If Ms. Kelton, or others involved with the ‘no confidence’ petition, were so unhappy with the school committee on so many issues, then why didn’t she, or others behind this petition, step forward and run for office to make the School Committee better?
The ‘no confidence petition’ is flawed because there are no facts to support it. It is all smoke and mirrors.
The ‘no confidence’ petition should be withdrawn because it is unworthy of serious consideration by Sudbury residents.
