The Sudbury Historical Society (SHS) announces its Fall programs. In addition to the events below, the SHS will also have booths at the Colonial Faire at the Wayside Inn on September 26th, the Find Your People Fair at the Goodnow Library on September 27th, and Apple Fest at the Wayside Inn on October 3rd.
Join the Sudbury Historical Society (SHS) at the Sudbury History Center and Museum on September 17th at 6:30pm for a lecture on the early history of the Parmenter Family of Sudbury by descendant Ralph Parmenter Bennett!
In 1639, Deacon John Parmenter courageously voyaged across the Atlantic from England with his wife and two children and was one of the original proprietors of Sudbury. His descendants made important contributions to the town since its incorporation, valiantly fought in the American Revolutionary War, and the name is still proudly carried to this day.
Ralph Parmenter Bennett, one of these descendants, is an authority on the family genealogy and history and has published extensively researched articles on the Parmenters in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register. In this talk, he will discuss highlights from their English origins, their settling in Sudbury, and their participation in the Revolution in this celebratory year of America250.

The second annual Sudbury Appraisal Day will take place on Saturday, October 17th, from 1:00-3:00pm! Bring your antiques to the Sudbury History Center and Museum to be appraised by experts from Sudbury-based Tremont Auctions. No jewelry or furniture. All proceeds benefit the Sudbury Historical Society.

The annual Sudbury Road Race, which includes a 5-kilometer race and a 1-mile fun run, will take place on Veteran’s Day again this year on Wednesday, November 11, 2026! All ages welcome. Both races begin and end at Curtis Middle School in Sudbury.
Veterans race for free and SHS members receive a considerable discount. Proceeds from the race benefit our nonprofit organization.
