The White Ribbon Group, a subcommittee of the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable, is once again partnering with many municipalities, houses of worship, local businesses and families to raise awareness of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.
You will start to notice police stations, fire departments, houses of worship, municipal buildings, libraries, local businesses, family homes, along with other buildings in the area, are bathed in purple light: here’s why: The Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable is lighting buildings in purple in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and in support of violence prevention.
Purple is known to the color of courage, survival, honor and hope. According to statistics, three to four women are killed – largely by boys and men – every day in the United States. Seven women have already been killed in that way in Massachusetts within the past year.

The White Ribbon Group is a local initiative focused on engaging men and boys in ending violence against women and girls. It operates in collaboration with the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable. This aligns with the broader international White Ribbon Campaign, which aims to encourage men to speak out against violence against women and girls and promote healthy, positive attitudes and behaviors.
The Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln White Ribbon Group works to foster a community environment free from violence by educating and empowering individuals of all genders, challenge gender-based violence and embrace healthy masculinity.
