Design and install a garden in Sudbury’s Heritage Park to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Sudbury militiamen participated in the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, where they were attacked by British Army Troops returning to Boston. The Sudbury Garden Club would like to plan and install this garden to honor the history and our community. Sudbury has the distinction of having the postal zip code of 01776.
The Sudbury Garden Club is the proud 2025 recipient of $2000 from the National Garden Clubs, Plant America Community Project Grant. Our project is to design and install a garden for the Sudbury community to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. We are so excited about this project.
In Sudbury’s historic town center, this is where a new garden begins for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. When one views the beautiful plants in this garden, you look up and see the historic town common with buildings from the 1700’s. You can’t help but feel tremendous pride in Sudbury.
Progress to prepare this special garden is on schedule. Installation has begun on this new garden on March 20th, which coincides with the first day of Spring. The garden outline and edging was started. A no-dig sheet mulching garden technique that involves layering organic materials to smother weeds and build soil over the 1,268 of garden area.
On May 7, 2025, Sudbury Garden Club Civic Beautification members, Massachusetts Master Gardeners, and volunteers started the installation of tree and shrubs in the garden.
On June 4, 2025, the Sudbury Garden Club Civic Beautification, Massachusetts Master Gardeners planted the final installation of shade loving perennials to this garden. A total of 45 plants were installed.
