I am excited to announce my candidacy for the two-year Sudbury School Committee seat. I am running because I understand the importance of establishing district policies, setting educational goals, and approving budgets. I believe strong leadership is essential for achieving measurable goals in our schools.
I hold a CPA and work as a Director of Policy and Procedure Governance at an Accounting and Consulting Firm. I have 20 years of experience overseeing the development and execution of finance-owned policies and procedures that align with strategic goals and risk mitigation strategies, financial statement audits, and consulting on strategic planning and compliance.
With two young children, I feel a strong alignment with both the short-term and long-term goals of continuing to improve Sudbury’s quality education. In a time when our children are preparing for careers that may not even exist yet, it is essential that our schools not only prepare students for the next educational level but also equip them with the tools and analytical skills necessary to shape the future of our society.
One of the School Committee’s most essential responsibilities is the approval of the school budget. This means supporting all learners, including those who need additional resources and those who seek greater challenges. It also means recognizing that our educators’ working environments are our students’ learning environments. When we improve conditions for our educators, we enhance the learning experience for our students.
I will work to ensure that the SPS budget reflects our priorities and supports student success. My advocacy will focus on:
- Academic Excellence: Studying class size guidelines for better learning outcomes.
- Inclusion and Equity: Allocating resources to meet diverse student needs.
- Clear Communication: Providing transparent, easy-to-understand budget reports.
Another critical responsibility of the School Committee is setting policy. Policies are more than just words; they set the expectations for our educational environment and reflect our community’s priorities. At the core of my beliefs and professional experience is the idea that we should not let perfection stand in the way of progress. The School Committee should find common ground in our shared desire to do what is best for our students and continually make meaningful progress, ensuring that our community feels heard and responsive to its needs.
I will also work to strengthen community engagement and collaboration by:
- Promoting Belonging: Ensuring that all students feel welcome and supported.
- Encouraging Dialogue: Creating accessible channels for community input.
- Building Partnerships: Engaging with educators and local organizations to support student success.
