I am writing to share my enthusiastic support for both Jessica McCready and Elizabeth (Betsy) Sues, who are running for seats on the Sudbury School Committee. While they are running for different terms, with Jessica seeking the three-year seat and Betsy the two-year seat, both candidates possess exceptional qualities that make them well-suited to support and advance the educational goals of our community. Their shared vision for improving the Sudbury school district, commitment to fostering inclusive education, and dedication to engaging with parents and the community set them apart as outstanding choices for this important role.
Jessica McCready, a passionate educator and a parent of four children, brings a wealth of academic experience to her candidacy. With a PhD in Anatomy and Neurobiology, along with years of postdoctoral research experience, Jessica has honed a deep understanding of pedagogy and student engagement. As a college professor and department chair, she has demonstrated effective leadership skills, building consensus and improving decision-making processes—skills that will be invaluable in her role on the School Committee. Jessica’s personal experience as a parent of children with special needs and a member of the LGBTQ+ community adds a unique perspective on how we can create an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. She has a strong commitment to ensuring that all students—regardless of background, ability, or learning style—feel welcomed, challenged, and supported.
Elizabeth (Betsy) Sues, like Jessica, is deeply committed to advocating for all students. With a strong foundation as the daughter of a kindergarten teacher and the parent of two young children, Betsy brings a compassionate and insightful perspective on what it means to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. Her leadership will emphasize transparency, consensus-building, and fostering community engagement. Betsy understands the importance of policies that reflect the diverse needs of our students, and she has expressed strong support for creating inclusive policies, such as a Transgender and Gender Non-conforming Student Policy. She also advocates for a balanced approach to budgeting that supports educational excellence while maintaining financial responsibility, ensuring that the district’s resources are allocated equitably across all programs.
One key similarity between Jessica and Betsy is their long-term commitment to the success of our schools. As parents of young children who will be in the Sudbury Public Schools for many years to come, they are deeply invested in ensuring that the district thrives not just for the current generation, but for the students to come. This long-term perspective gives them a strong motivation to make thoughtful, sustainable decisions that will benefit our schools for years to come.
Both Jessica and Betsy share a vision of continuous improvement in our educational system. They are both strong advocates for high standards of education, supporting initiatives such as regularly updating curricula, fostering diversity and inclusion in classrooms, and improving communication between the School Committee and the community. Their dedication to student success, as well as their commitment to ensuring a collaborative and transparent process in the School Committee, makes them both outstanding candidates.
I strongly encourage you to vote for Jessica McCready for the three-year term and Elizabeth (Betsy) Sues for the two-year term. Their experience, dedication, and shared values will ensure that our children continue to receive the quality education they deserve, and that our community’s voice is heard and respected.
Sincerely,
Sheila Pundit
