Given the consistent cold Winter, defined from December 1 thru February 28, I decided to look at our heating degree days, for Sudbury, for this period. Heating degree days measure how far below 65 degrees the average daily temperature is. Thus it is an indication of how much energy is needed to heat our homes and buildings. The result is not surprising. Over the duration, year over year, we likely spent 19% more on energy costs due to weather. Ouch!
Details, by month, noted below:
Dec. 2023 heating degree days: 895
Dec. 2024 heating degree days: 1064
+19%
Jan. 2024 heating degree days: 1105
Jan. 2025 heating degree days: 1295
+17%
Feb. 2024 heating degree days: 872
Feb. 2025 heating degree days: 1057
+21%
So in total for the winter duration:+19%
