On March 25 we will vote on members of the Select Board. There are three candidates for two openings. I will be voting only for Janie Dretler, a so called ‘bullet’ vote, as it will be the surest way to get her re-elected.
Why vote to put Janie on the Select Board for another 3-year term? Because she has earned it. I could use a lot of adjectives to describe what a great job she has done, but they are only words. To appreciate Janie’s leadership, I’d like to mention four accomplishments: 1) moving the BFRT toward completion and working to get Phase 3 into shape for design and construction, 2) making sure the Fairbank Community Center was a successful project with adequate funding, 3) instituting financial policies reform 4) and prudent use of ARPA funds. Keeping tabs on multiple projects requires physically getting out there and ‘seeing for yourself’, not just reading reports or taking someone else’s word for it. That’s Janie.
Another success has been Janie’s resourcefulness while the Board was in the process of hiring of a new town manager. Her adroitness during the interview process, comparing strengths among the applicants, and guiding the Board to see Andy Sheehan as the best candidate was no simple task. It was the correct decision. Andy is an experienced and talented town manager, a key to so many other good outcomes. It is clear they have established a positive working relationship.
Good management of Select Board meetings has been no simple task, but somehow Janie keeps the discussion focused, on track, and mostly civil. Other Board members respect her, not just because she is Chair, but because she is fair. For almost 6 years Janie Dretler has been a leader in Sudbury, and has made it a better place. She sees both the forest and the trees. With Janie continuing as a member of the Select Board for another term, I have every confidence the town will continue to be protected with wise leadership.
I hope you will join me in voting to re-elect Janie Dretler on March 25.
