We hear all the time that elections matter. And this year’s town election is no exception. There are only two competitive races in this year’s town election. I want to share my personal thoughts on one of those races.
In the Select Board race, there are two incumbents and one challenger running for two seats. I will be voting only for Janie Dretler. Over the past six years as a Select Board member and Chair, Janie has demonstrated her commitment to a better future for Sudbury. She researches every issue brought before the Select Board and challenges conventional thinking in search of the best outcome for the town. She is a team player and her goal is to reach consensus whenever possible. She is practical, insightful and always willing to lend a hand, take a call, listen and be as responsive as she can be to all inquiries.
Janie was a big supporter of the new Fairbank Community Center project. As early as the Spring of 2019, when I first got involved in the project as a member of the Council on Aging, Janie accompanied me on several road trips to visit Senior Centers in neighboring towns. We toured the centers, spoke with center directors, and took pictures. We discussed with directors what was good about their facility and what changes they would make if they were to build new. Janie was the only member of the Select Board to take that level of interest in the needs of our seniors for the Community Center project. Janie has taken no less of an interest in many other initiatives that make Sudbury such a wonderful place to live, including the construction of rail trails, updating our fire stations and the hiring of a very experienced Town Manager.
Janie has earned our vote in many ways, so I hope you will join me to reelect her.
