The Town of Sudbury is preparing to update its Open Space & Recreation Plan, a critical roadmap that will determine how the community prioritizes land preservation, natural resource protection, and recreational development for the coming years. To kick off this process, the town will host a virtual Town Forum on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
The forum, scheduled from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, aims to inform residents about the “what, why, and when” of the updated plan. Town officials emphasize that resident input is a crucial component of the process, as the final document will guide decisions on everything from protecting the town’s water supply and wildlife habitats to developing new trail connections and recreational fields.
A Roadmap for Sudbury’s Character
The Open Space & Recreation Plan serves as a strategic tool for the town. It identifies key goals regarding open space parcels and outlines the steps necessary to achieve them. According to the announcement, potential goals for the 2026 update include:
- Preserving the town’s unique character.
- Protecting critical wildlife habitats and water supplies.
- Providing both active and passive recreation opportunities.
- Enhancing non-motorized recreation through trail linkages.
This update follows previous iterations of the plan, including the 2009-2013 and 1997-2002 versions.

The forum will feature a panel of key town officials who steer Sudbury’s planning, recreation and conservation efforts:
- Adam Burney, Director of Planning & Community Development
- Lori Capone, Conservation Coordinator
- Vivian Zeng, Director of Health & Community Services
- Amy Hamilton, Interim Director of Park & Recreation and Aquatics
Residents are encouraged to attend the virtual session to learn more and have their voices heard. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
