[Mary Stephens asked Sudbury Weekly to publish her updated letter of resignation so the community could read it in full. The below letter was submitted on January 22, 2025.]
Please see my updated resignation letter. I was incorrectly informed that I had to resign effective immediately for the vacancy to appear on the ballot. With new information, I am updating my resignation letter.
Unfortunately, I am writing to inform you of my resignation from the Sudbury School Committee. Due to a family health concern, we decided this weekend that we would be leaving Sudbury, and thus, I would not legally be allowed to serve.
In order to ensure that the Sudbury community has the opportunity to select my replacement, I am resigning effective March 30, 2025, the last date I can legally serve so that the vacancy appears on the ballot.
Thank you to those who supported me throughout my candidacy and time on the committee. I am truly sorry that I will not be able to continue to advocate for the SPS students on the school committee beyond that date. Until I move, I will continue to do everything I can to assist in any way.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to speak further.
Sincerely,
Mary
