A Sudbury police department dispatcher deployed on U.S. Navy Reserve duty was injured in an Iranian attack on a military base in Dubai Saturday.
Owen Gerow, 22, sustained injuries the first day of the conflict when the United States and Israel attacked Iran and Iran retaliated with strikes on U.S. bases in the Middle East. Reports said he has been deployed since June or July.
“He and his colleagues experienced several missile impacts resulting in minor injuries they are mending,” the Sudbury police department posted on Facebook. The post added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with our military personnel in harm’s way, to include one of our own who is currently deployed overseas with the United States Navy.”
Sudbury Chief of Police Scott Nix said he would not comment further to protect the dispatcher and his family. “We are very proud of all those who serve in the military and those who serve at home,” he said.
There are no other members of the Sudbury police department currently deployed on military reserve duty.
Gerow’s father told WBZ-TV News that “he is doing OK,” but declined to share additional details Sunday.
