Jonathan Sullivan will not petition for a recount of the Sudbury School Committee results. Sullivan conducted a write-in campaign in the March 30 election.
Official election results showed Ellen Lederer-DeFrancesco edging Sullivan by 15 votes, 1,452 to 1,437. Julie Durgin topped the Sudbury School Committee vote total with 1,566 votes. The Sudbury School Committee oversees Sudbury Public Schools (SPS) Pre-K to eighth grade district.
Sullivan announced his decision on his campaign Facebook page, noting “after meeting with the Town Clerk and carefully considering the situation, I have decided that continuing with a recount or pursuing further action would likely be an uphill battle.” He encouraged his supporters to stay involved with the schools.
Only candidates, including write-in candidates, can ask for a recount in an election.
Here is Sullivan’s statement:
“I want to sincerely thank all of you for your outreach, encouragement, and support during the campaign and over the past week since the election. Your kindness, passion, and commitment to our schools and community have meant so much to me and my family.
“After meeting with the Town Clerk and carefully considering the situation, I have decided that continuing with a recount or pursuing further action would likely be an uphill battle. While there are still questions and frustrations, there has already been enough division and challenge over these past couple of weeks.
“Instead, I would much rather see us channel the incredible positive energy, momentum, and engagement from this campaign into continuing to stay involved in our schools and community.
“I encourage everyone to stay informed, stay engaged, and continue speaking up for what matters most: our students, our schools, and the future of our town.
“This campaign showed just how many people care deeply about Sudbury and want to see our schools and community thrive. Let’s continue to unite around that shared goal and work together to create the best possible future for our kids.
“Thank you again for your support, your trust, and your belief in this campaign. I am incredibly grateful, and I hope to see you all around town.”
