On Wednesday, the Rail Trails Advisory Committee (RTAC) met after recently completing a walk of the proposed route of Phase 3 of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. That’s the section that runs from the intersection with the Mass Central Rail Trail at Union Road and Station Road and continues south to the Framingham border.
Their discussion focused primarily on amenities and where those amenities might be located on this stretch of the trail. Amenities discussed included everything from birdwatching platforms and benches to interpretive signage for cattle crossings and glacial erratics. In other words: in addition to RTAC providing input on desirable amenities for the design phase, the trail route already has some noteworthy natural resources.

Towards the end of the meeting, Pransky shared the following photograph from a connecting trail just off the side of the proposed Phase 3 of the BFRT; highlighting one of the more remarkable views that will be available to trail users when Phase 3 is built. (1:12:10)
As with prior phases of the BFRT in Sudbury, there’s a defined design process that they need to go through before they get to construction. That will take some time. Nonetheless, RTAC’s latest bit of planning work will almost certainly increase public anticipation of Phase 3 in Sudbury.
