Sudbury’s Annual Town Election for town and school committee offices will be Monday, March 25. According to the Town Clerk, candidates for those offices can begin “pulling papers” to gather signatures and run on Thursday, Jan. 4. You can find dates and deadlines for the local election here.
Now is the time to think about running for one of those offices!
Any registered voter in Sudbury has the right to run. Boards and committees do not choose who may run to join them. You can learn more about your right to run here on our website.
The list of openings will be posted by the Town Clerk in late December or early January. But a Sudbury League of Women Voters video on how to run for office can answer some of your practical questions now. You can watch the recording on SudburyTV here. Rosemary Harvell, who was Town Clerk when this was recorded in 2018, presents the Sudbury requirements at 0:29:48. Then Jason Tait of the Office of Campaign and Political Finance outlines the state campaign filing requirements starting at 0:41:39. These two presentations will make it much clearer what you must do to run for office.
