One of Sudbury’s two school districts has come to terms with its teachers’ union for a new contract. On January 7, the Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee announced the results of their negotiations. Member Kevin Matthews provided an overview of the changes to the contract terms and compensation schedule.
Educators at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School will get a total of 7.375% in cost of living adjustments over three years. That will include 3% in the first year, 3% in second, and 1.375% in the third year.
Schedule B of the contract, which is the compensation schedule for extra-curricular work like coaching, was restructured to focus on impact for students according to Matthews. He indicated that a value-based compensation formula was proposed by the Teachers’ Association. The committee was amenable to the proposal and felt schedule B of the contract was overdue for a restructuring.
Other changes included an expansion of reasons for paid time off, which will allow educators to use bereavement days for the loss of an uncle or aunt. On the flip side, they’re giving the administration the ability to factor excessive absences into annual performance evaluations, and require approval for two or more personal days when they abut school vacations or holidays.
The contract was ratified by the Teachers’ Association and then approved by the Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee in an executive session on January 7.
