Sudbury residents and engaged couple Caroline Granahan and Graham Small are headed to the stage together in Weston. The pair is appearing in the Weston Friendly Society’s (WFS) production of the classic musical, “She Loves Me,” running from November 22-29 at the Weston Town Hall.
The romantic comedy, which Deadline called “the best Broadway musical you’ve never heard of,” is based on the same 1937 play that was the original inspiration for the 1998 film “You’ve Got Mail,” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Set in a 1930s European parfumerie, the story follows two feuding shop clerks who unknowingly fall in love as anonymous pen pals responding to a “lonely hearts” ad.
While the lead roles are played by actors from Boston and Newton, Granahan and Small actually share the stage for their respective roles/scenes. Graham Small plays the role of the waiter at the café where the romantic rendezvous is set to take place, while Caroline Granahan plays the busser at the café.
The musical features songs by the legendary “Fiddler on the Roof” songwriting team, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick. The score includes “Vanilla Ice Cream,” “Tonight at Eight,” and “Twelve Days to Christmas.”
With performances scheduled around the Thanksgiving holiday, the production offers a perfect family outing during the Thanksgiving week.
Performance Details: “She Loves Me” will be performed at the Weston Town Hall on:
- Evening Performances (7:30 p.m.): Nov. 22, 28, and 29
- Matinee Performances (2 p.m.): Nov. 23 and 29
Tickets are available now at www.westonfriendly.org. The Weston Friendly Society, which is the second oldest community theatre group in the United States, is currently in its 141st season.
