The Sudbury Foundation has rapidly mobilized to support local communities facing heightened food insecurity, announcing an emergency funding initiative of $155,000 on Tuesday, November 5, 2025.
The critical funds are being distributed immediately to 17 local hunger relief organizations across the region. This action comes in direct response to a significant challenge: a recent SNAP funding cut triggered by the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The grants aim to plug a gap in the local safety net, ensuring pantries and community suppers can continue to meet the soaring need. The Sudbury Community Food Pantry, which has reported a surge in demand, was awarded $15,000. Other local pantries receiving crucial support include the Stow Food Pantry ($5,000), the Lincoln Food Pantry ($5,000), and My Brother’s Table in Wayland ($5,000). (Full list below)
“Although the local current hunger relief infrastructure cannot absorb this volume of need, many of our partners are working hard to do as much as they can, and we are here to support their work,” said Sonia Shah, Executive Director of the Sudbury Foundation.
Shah emphasized that the emergency grants underscore the Foundation’s and ongoing commitment to addressing vital community. The funding will provide immediate relief for organizations struggling to keep pace with demand, ensuring food remains accessible to families affected by the reduced federal assistance.
In total, 17 organizations spanning multiple towns—including Framingham, Natick, Hudson, Marlborough, and Maynard—will receive grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000.
The Sudbury Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to transforming lives and strengthening communities through grantmaking and scholarship programs. In 2024 alone, the Foundation distributed $1.89 million in grants and scholarships, focusing efforts on Sudbury and surrounding communities.
