The Sudbury Education Association (SEA) recently ratified three union group contracts. The Sudbury Public Schools School Committee also ratified the contracts, which brought some clarity to the Fiscal Year 2027 budget.
In a statement issued this week, the SEA noted “The new contracts benefit not only our educators, but our students as well. Our members showed solidarity throughout this process, and we can see what’s possible when educators stand together to advocate for what our students deserve. By listening to the voices of our members, these agreements ensure that our schools remain places where our students and staff can thrive.”

While the resolution of those contracts brings budget clarity because they represent a much larger portion of the school district budget, the lone remaining unsettled contract is for the school nurses. The SEA voiced their support for the nurses in an Instagram post heading into their negotiation meeting on January 15:
The nurses expressed that they felt “dismissed and overlooked” in a November 2025 letter. Their letter described how they had endured a five-year negotiation process and were working without a “collaboratively agreed-upon contract.”
The SEA contracts were settled soon after Town Manager Andy Sheehan was appointed to the SPS Negotiations Subcommittee. If that momentum continues, there could be a settlement in sight. However, the details remain confidential during the negotiation process.
