The Town Clerk’s office certified Tuesday the nomination papers of Liam J. Vesely, who is running for Board of Assessors, and Julie Leigh Durgin, who is running for Sudbury School Committee. Vesely and Durgin are now official candidates whose names will appear on the ballot, bringing the total number of candidates whose names will appear on the ballot to seven.
With less than two weeks to go until the deadline, none of the prospective candidates for Select Board or Planning Board have returned their nomination papers, only one person has been certified for the ballot for Sudbury School Committee, and no one has filed to run for Park and Recreation Commissioner.
There are 11 open positions on this year’s Annual Town Election ballot. Any Sudbury registered voter may run for office. Prospective candidates do not need permission from a board or committee to run.
To appear on the ballot, prospective candidates must file an intention to run, gather the signatures of at least 50 registered Sudbury voters on a set of nomination papers, return those signatures by the Feb. 9 deadline, and the Town Clerk’s office must certify those signatures.

According to the Town Clerk’s office, the period for prospective candidates to file their intention to run is from Tuesday, Jan. 6 to Thursday, Feb. 5. Nomination papers (“signatures”) must be returned by Monday, Feb. 9.
