Sudbury Coffee Works has been serving breakfast and lunch to the Sudbury community for over three decades, but it’s not resting on its laurels.
Owner Roksana Sasanfar appeared before the Board of Health to request a food service variance on September 9. The variance would allow for the restaurant to expand hours for dinner service, and was voted favorably and unanimously by the Board. This is the initial, not the final, step towards launching a dinner service at Sudbury Coffee Works. Health Department staff will continue to work with the business on a path towards expanded service.
When asked to elaborate on her plans for dinner service, Sasanfar explained that “I always wanted to have a dinner time, but my passion is about Persian cuisine.” She went on to explain “I want to expand dinner for a not-very-long menu, but it’s all going to be a Persian style for dinner. I believe this is a good addition for the town.”
Sasanfar added that her Persian restaurant in Watertown has had a good reputation for 15 years, and that the Sudbury menu would be limited, but high-quality.
During discussion the board asked about the schedule for dinner service, and Sasanfar indicated that it would start with service six days per week, Monday through Saturday, but she would like to expand to Sundays eventually.
The Board opted to maintain the current seating limitations based on the capacity of the septic system on the site. The Health Department will be doing a menu review to make sure the space has the capacity and refrigeration necessary to expand service. The proposal was met with enthusiasm by the Board and staff.
The discussion starts early in the meeting, embedded below.
