The United States Postal Service recently featured the town in the July 2026 edition of its employee magazine, The Eagle, celebrating Sudbury’s deep historical ties just in time for America’s 250th anniversary.
It’s no secret that Sudbury boasts the exceptionally patriotic ZIP Code of 01776, a perfect nod to the year of the Declaration of Independence. The magazine highlighted this charming coincidence by featuring the five large metal cubes shaped into these iconic digits by sculptor Dale Rogers at Meadow Walk. As local Sudbury Historical Society director and archivist Francesco Buccella told the publication, “Our ZIP Code really adds to Sudbury’s patriotic spirit.”
The feature praised Sudbury’s colonial roots dating back to the 17th century and honored the Sudbury residents who fought as minutemen and militia in the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The article also showcased the legendary Wayside Inn, which stands as one of the country’s oldest continuously operating inns.
The piece even gave a fun shoutout to local lore, noting the Wayside Inn Grist Mill served as the inspiration for the Pepperidge Farm logo and the Redstone Schoolhouse is famously connected to the poem “Mary Had a Little Lamb.”
The article wraps up with a nod to the recently renovated local Post Office on Boston Post Road. Postmaster Monirul Chowdhury proudly noted that customers love the updated building and “want to see us thrive far into the future.” The feature is another point of pride for Sudbury residents as the country celebrates the nation’s milestone birthday.
