I hear you. You disagree with something in relation to that culture/religion/identity. You don’t think the signs should be up, you get upset when you drive by and see them. I get it. I feel the same way when I see political signs promoting candidates that are against the civil rights of people that I know and love. It sucks.
I don’t want to get into a political debate with you. I doubt we will see eye to eye on these subjects, no matter what either of us has to say. I do want to find common ground, though. Could we agree that every child in Sudbury deserves the right to feel safe in their town? That every child in Sudbury deserves to feel safe in their home, on their own property?
There’s a difference between intent and impact. I sincerely doubt that when you stole the signs your intention was to make children feel unsafe. Unfortunately, that’s the impact that stealing identity based signs has. It’s scary. Someone who is THAT against your identity came to your house, came on your property, to take something from you and make it known that they aren’t okay with who you are. It’s painful for those families, including the children. It feels threatening. No child deserves to feel that way. Not in Sudbury, not anywhere.
Please stop. Find another way to express what you need to express.
