If it seems like childcare facilities are popping up everywhere around Sudbury, it’s probably because they are. A Primrose School is slated to open later this summer on the east side of Boston Post Road in Sudbury, and a Celebree School is coming to 631 Boston Post Road on the west end. Now, an additional childcare facility is proposed on the western end of Boston Post Road.
Representatives of BrightPath Childcare went before the Sudbury Planning Board on June 25 with a proposal for an 11,000 square foot childcare facility at 694 Boston Post Road, the former site of Acapulcos Mexican Restaurant.
The site has been in limbo for a number of years. The building was demolished and plans to construct a new restaurant we put in place, but the property was put up for sale after the plans were approved. While the site has been home to restaurants for many decades in Sudbury, the construction of a childcare facility would bring more change to this portion of the corridor.
While the use of the property may change, the site will see a reduction in total impervious surface according to BrightPath representatives, and the overall footprint of the development will not dramatically alter the property. Representatives told the Planning Board that the facility is covered by the Dover Amendment, which limits which zoning requirements apply.

The proposed structure received compliments from the Planning Board, as well as some feedback on the appearance of the side of the building facing Boston Post Road. The proposed building will have a side entrance facing the parking lot, with the broad side of the building facing the road.

The Planning Board continued the application to an August meeting, as they are waiting on additional peer-reviews pertaining to groundwater, as well as modifications to the proposal based on the feedback provided on June 25.
