The Community Preservation Committee (CPC) met on Wednesday, November 5 to hear from project applicants for four of the applications for this cycle, including:
- SMILE Playground
- Amenities on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail
- Sudbury Housing Trust Allocation
- RHSO Membership Fee
It was a largely uneventful meeting, and the committee members appeared to be broadly satisfied with the answers provided by the presenters. Here’s the running summary:
SMILE Playground
Assistant Town Manager/Finance Director, Victor Garofalo, presented the project. He had detailed financials and an aggressive timeline to complete the project by the fall of 2026 if Town Meeting votes in favor of the article. The committee wants to see final designs as a soon as possible, which Garofalo said could be in-hand in a matter of weeks. He’s currently gather information from contractors for play structures that meet universal design standards.
Amenities on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail
The committee seemed to be interested in the project, which would fund art installations along the rail trail. But it raised questions about procurement, and some members questioned if the project, as currently proposed, actually qualifies for CPA funding.
Sudbury Housing Trust Allocation
Representative Carmine Gentile presented for the Sudbury Housing Trust (SHT). There were several questions covering multiple facets of what the Housing Trust does in Sudbury, as well as discussion of specific properties including the Crime Lab building. The SHT is asking for a considerable sum of money this cycle, but there did not appear to be any major concerns from the committee.
RHSO Membership Fee
This is a routine annual application to fund the Regional Housing Services Office (RHSO). The RHSO provides housing-related services in Sudbury and other member towns in the region, which means its name is extremely descriptive.
The CPC is moving steadily through their work this cycle. Their next meeting is November 19.
