During Monday’s Conservation Committee meeting, the Commission was informed that there are new and significantly improved maps available to the public for many of Sudbury’s conservation land properties. Conservation Coordinator Lori Capone shared with the Conservation Commission that most of the maps are now updated, and showed an example of the old Tippling Rock map compared to the new map. Here’s the new Tippling Rock map:

The new maps can be accessed on the Sudbury Conservation Department website here. Click on the property you are interested in, then click on the green icon at the center of the page which will say “Conservation Land Maps.”
Another example of the new maps is the map for Haynes Meadow. Haynes Meadow actually sits between Gray Reservation and Sudbury Water District Land. But the trail systems connect across all three properties. The new map captures the trails on all three properties, and highlights some of the bridges that help move hikers through the land.

The bridges at the center of Haynes Meadow are a particularly beautiful spot. The map even captures the less-traveled uphill trail that heads southeast immediately after the big bridge at the center of the map. Here’s the view from the top of that hill:

And here’s the view of the winter sun dropping as you head southwest over that same bridge — or from right to the left over the bridge in the picture above:

Other noteworthy map updates include Nobscot (Sudbury conservation land adjacent to the Nobscot Scout Reservation), Davis Farm, Frost Farm, and the always-popular Hop Brook Conservation Land.
Conservation Commission Chair, Dave Henkels, was effusive in his praise for the work that went into the new maps. Other commissioners noted the desire to ensure that the community is notified when new maps are published to the Town website. One option mentioned was the ability to subscribe on the Town website for content updates. The Conservation Commission content-update subscription page is here. All category and department-specific email newsletter lists can be accessed here. Subscriptions for all committee and department page website content updates are available here.
