The Sudbury Fire Department will open its doors to the community on Sunday, October 5, 2025, for its annual Open House at Fire Headquarters, 77 Hudson Road, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The event, held in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week (October 5–11), gives families a chance to meet Sudbury’s firefighters and department personnel, explore fire and rescue vehicles, and learn more about the town’s public safety services.
Visitors can watch a ladder climbing demonstration, try their hand at spraying a fire hose, and check out a variety of equipment displays. Children and adults alike will enjoy hands-on activities, emergency preparedness information, and opportunities to talk directly with firefighters.
Free pizza, donated by Papa Gino’s, will be served throughout the event. Representatives from the town’s Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Hazardous Mitigation Planning group will also be on hand to share information about ongoing public safety and resilience efforts.
This is the first Sudbury Fire Department Open House under new Chief, Timothy Choate. It’s also a bright moment for the department.
In addition to getting near-unanimous support from the 2025 Annual Town Meeting for a new fire engine and ambulance, Choate has been building his team. In a recent Select Board meeting, Assistant Town Manager and Finance Director, Victor Garofalo, lauded the chief for his efforts to successfully recruit firefighters this year. Garofalo noted there were seven or eight vacancies from the prior fiscal year (FY25) that have almost all been filled. He credited Choate’s proactive approach to recruitment since taking charge of the department. (1:01:00)
The Sudbury Fire Department has also responded to fires at two of Sudbury’s most iconic businesses this year, Lotus Blossom and Sudbury Farms. Quick action from the fire department prevented those fires from turning into something far more catastrophic.
With new and familiar faces in attendance, much to celebrate, and plenty of fun to be had, the Sudbury Fire Department Open House is the place to be on Sunday, October 5.
