Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll have endorsed Ravi Simon in the race for state representative in the 13th Middlesex District, the Simon campaign announced today.
The endorsement adds the state’s two highest-ranking elected officials to a list of institutional backers that already includes major labor unions, environmental organizations and reproductive rights groups.
“Ravi Simon is a proven leader who is ready to deliver for the people of the 13th Middlesex district,” Healey said in a statement released by the campaign. “From making sure our schools have the resources they need to advocating for policies that make life more affordable, Ravi always stands up for his community.”
Driscoll said she looked forward to “partnering with him to lower costs and deliver for the people of the 13th Middlesex and all of Massachusetts.”
Simon, a two-time chair of the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School (LSRHS) School Committee and previously the legislative aide to retiring state Rep. Carmine Gentile (D-Sudbury), called the administration’s first-term record one that has moved the state “in the right direction.”
“I am honored to have the support of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and I look forward to working in partnership with them,” he said.
A quiet race so far
Simon, a Sudbury native and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School graduate, entered the race in February, days after Gentile announced he would not seek a seventh term. Gentile, who has held the seat since 2015, endorsed Simon immediately.
When the state’s candidate filing period closed, Simon was the only name certified for the 13th Middlesex ballot in either party.
That means the Sept. 1 primary is, as it stands, uncontested. Barring a successful write-in effort, Simon would face no opponent in the Nov. 3 general election either.
Such an effort is not unprecedented in this district. In 2024, Wayland Republican Virginia Gardner secured a spot on the November ballot against Gentile by collecting 151 write-in votes in the September GOP primary, just over the 150-vote threshold required. Gentile went on to win by a roughly three-to-one margin.
Simon has also been endorsed by the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, the Massachusetts Nurses Association, the Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund, the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund, Reproductive Equity Now and Progressive Mass, along with Gentile, state Rep. Simon Cataldo (D-Concord) and state Sen. Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough).
The 13th Middlesex District covers all of Sudbury along with Precinct 1 in Lincoln, Precincts 3 and 4 in Concord, Precincts 1 and 4 in Wayland, and several precincts in Marlborough.
The state primary is Tuesday, Sept. 1. The last day to register to vote in the primary is Aug. 22.
