The Housing Roundtable had its first meeting on June 9 at the Goodnow Library. Over 40 members of the public came to the Library or participated virtually. Sheila Cusolito, Executive Director, gave an overview of the Sudbury Housing Authority’s ownership and management of rental properties for low and moderate income residents in Sudbury. Carmine Gentile, Chair of the Sudbury Housing Trust, also spoke to the Trust’s goal of increasing home ownership opportunities for low and moderating income residents. Finally, Liz Rust, the Executive Director of the Regional Housing Services Office, provided a broader picture of affordable housing in Sudbury historically and currently.
The Housing Roundtable Steering Committee is grateful for all those who participated, contributing their time, thoughtful questions, and exhibiting a willingness to engage in an important conversation about affordable housing, community needs, and the shared responsibility of planning thoughtfully for Sudbury’s future.
Affordable housing is a complex and deeply local issue, touching on questions of accessibility, affordability, infrastructure, and long-term community vitality. The discussion reflected a range of perspectives, and the Steering Committee appreciated the opportunity to gather with our neighbors to understand concerns and uncover opportunities for collaboration.
There is important work ahead, and continued progress will rely on patience, openness, transparency, and partnership. We look forward to keeping the conversation going, learning from community input, and working together toward housing solutions that are thoughtful, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of current and prospective Sudbury residents.
The next Housing Roundtable is scheduled for October 6th at 7 PM. The location will be announced later. In the meantime, the public can learn more about affordable housing by looking at Citizens’ Housing & Planning Association resources and consider attending an education webinar.
With sincere appreciation,
The Housing Roundtable Steering Committee.
