Citing unanticipated costs in out of district transportation and tuition, the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School District (LSRHS) administration told the Sudbury Finance Committee on Monday, December 16 that they have a roughly $800,000 shortfall in their current Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) budget.
In a bit of good news, the administration reported that the district has built up enough in Circuit Breaker Special Education funds to cover the shortfall. The district is also expecting to have over $1M in excess and deficiency (E&D) funds certified in March. (E&D is a bit like a free cash equivalent for a regional school district)
Overall, with the exception of out of district costs, the administration felt they were tracking nicely towards budget for FY26, and cautiously estimated that they would close the year with about $75K to spare. Out of district costs are expected to increase again in the next fiscal year, and the district is reporting an estimated 19% increase in health insurance costs. However, they opened the budget building process for FY27 with nearly balanced budget.
The Finance Committee’s LSRHS liaison, Eric Poch, concluded the discussion by emphasizing that the district was in “pretty good shape” heading into FY27.
