Natural gas prices are climbing, and home heating bills are a source of significant concern across the state. But there’s no relief in site. National Grid is calling for a rate increase, which could drive rates 10% higher next winter, if approved.
A legislative solution might be the only way to provide consumers some relief, but the legislature is keeping itself busy with a lawsuit to block a voter-approved audit. With that in mind, consumers will have to look elsewhere in their budgets to cut costs, and Sudbury Weekly is here to help. Here’s a list of cars that you can lease (with zero down payment) for less than the all-too-common $650 natural gas bill in Sudbury. Pricing was gathered from RealCarTips.com.
2025 Subaru Impreza (Base) – $299/month
Let’s start with a budget pick. And remember – this price is for any leftover 2025 models. This is the cheapest zero-down lease deal available, but the practical hatchback comes with all wheel drive standard, even on the base model. Perfect for shuttling the family from one sport to the next. Just be careful if you have a dog that sheds. The Impreza does not have an option to add leather upholstery.

2026 Toyota Prius Hybrid (LE) – $355/month
Sudbury has its fair share of environmentalists, and the Prius is a top choice among hybrids. At $355/month and delivering over 50 miles per gallon, you might as well turn off the heat in your house and just go sit in the driveway in your new Prius. Just remember to glare at people driving gas guzzlers at red lights, then smirk in self satisfaction with your superiority. And certainly don’t feel inferior when an all-electric vehicle rolls up next to you. You’re doing your best!
2026 Toyota Tacoma (SR5) – $397/month
The beloved “Taco” can be had for less than $400 per month — a steal of a deal for people who desperately need to tell other people that they drive a truck. One of the key features of this truck is that it’s a truck. That feature makes it much easier for other people to know that you drive a truck. Because you’re a truck person.

2026 Toyota Sienna (LE) – $472/month
Ahhh, there’s no vehicle quite like the Sienna minivan if you’re looking for maximum utility in the MetroWest suburbs. What it lacks in the “cool factor” it more than makes up for with ample space for the insanely high quality furniture that Sudbury residents give away for free on the Curb Alert Facebook group. The storage cubbies are so abundant in this car that you have a built-in excuse for why you haven’t returned the bag of soccer balls, pumps and cones to Sudbury Youth Soccer. “It was wedged in the cubby behind the third row, and I just never look in there!”

2026 BMW 3 Series (330i xDrive) – $649/month
Here’s a stunner. You can actually get into a luxury sport sedan for a dollar less than that $650 natural gas bill, and it even has all wheel drive. Best of all, the dealership is right here in Sudbury, so you won’t have to drive far for your $527 oil change and tire rotation. Just remember, while BMW’s have turn signals, they are not meant to be used under any circumstances.

2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee L – $636/month
The problem with minivans and hatchbacks is they just can’t take you off the beaten path. If you need a vehicle that could go off road, but will only ever serve as a shuttle to youth sports and Market Basket, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L is the perfect choice. It has a roomy third row seat that folds flat for large sports bags. Of course, large sports bags traveled in regular sized cars for decades before the current batch of full-sized monster truck SUVs. But nothing says “I’m a committed sports parent with a flair for the concept of the outdoors” quite like the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. And you’ll still spend $14 less than your natural gas bill.
Blending In with the Locals
Okay, so now you know you can get a nice, new car for less than your natural gas bill. But what if you just want something that doesn’t stand out that much relative to everyone else in Sudbury? Thanks to a 2022 analysis from the Boston Globe, we know which vehicles are most popular in Sudbury. The Toyota Camry and Toyota Highlander take the top two spots. The Honda CRV takes third. The Subaru Outback and Honda Accord round out the top five spots. All of them can be leased for less than $650. And don’t you worry, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. The seemingly ubiquitous Acura MDX made the top-10 list for Sudbury as well. Just how much do Sudbury residents love an MDX? It was the only luxury vehicle to make the top 10.
