Ryan James Poteat filed an intention (“pulled papers”) Thursday to run for Park and Recreation Commissioner in the March 30 Annual Town Election.
Poteat is currently an employee of the Town of Sudbury. He is the community preservation coordinator in the Planning & Community Development department. This will be his first run for a seat on the Park and Recreation Commission.
With a week and a half remaining before the deadline to return signatures, four prospective candidates have not yet been certified to appear on the ballot: Charles G. Russo for Select Board, Ryan James Poteat for Park and Recreation Commissioner, Julie Zelermeyer Perlman for Planning Board, and Ellen Lederer-DeFrancesco for Sudbury School Committee.
Seven people have returned their signatures and have been certified for the ballot: Liam J. Vesely for Board of Assessors, Ingrid J. Mayyasi and Elizabeth Mathews Iwasaki for Goodnow Library Trustee, Susan Ruth Sama for Board of Health, Julie Leigh Durgin for Sudbury School Committee, and Ravi Simon (Sudbury) and Jason McLure (Lincoln) for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional District School Committee.
There are 11 open positions on this year’s Annual Town Election ballot. Any Sudbury registered voter may run for office. Prospective candidates do not need permission from a board or committee to run.
To appear on the ballot, prospective candidates must file an intention to run, gather the signatures of at least 50 registered Sudbury voters on a set of nomination papers, return those signatures by the Feb. 9 deadline, and the Town Clerk’s office must certify those signatures.

According to the Town Clerk’s office, the period for prospective candidates to file their intention to run is from Tuesday, Jan. 6 to Thursday, Feb. 5. Nomination papers (“signatures”) must be returned by Monday, Feb. 9.
