On Tuesday, April 23, Sudbury’s Rail Trails Advisory Committee (RTAC) will hose a public forum to share the 25 percent designs of Phase 3 of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. Phase 3 will take the trail from the roughly the intersection of Union Road and Station Road in Sudbury the rest of the way into Framingham.
The event, which will happen in the Goodnow Library community room, will start at 6:30 P.M. The first half-hour is dedicated to in-person drop-in conversations so that residents can review the designs and ask questions of committee members and town experts. At 7:00 P.M. the event will go hybrid, with a Zoom option, for a formal presentation. Full details and joining instructions here.
In a recent RTAC meeting, Marcia Rasmussen, from the Sudbury Planning Department, clarified prior comments about the expected completion of phase 2D, which is actively under construction. Phase 2D is the portion from the northern border of Sudbury all the way down to the intersection with the Mass Central Rail Trail near Union Road and Station Road where Phase 3 would pick up. Prior public comments from Town officials suggested that phase 2D would be completed by the fall of 2024. However, the contract completion date is in June of 2025. Rasmussen from the Sudbury Planning department voiced optimism that completion could be achieved this year based on the progress being made on the trail, but affirmed the official contract completion date for the record.
