Mail ballots for the March 30 town election are on their way to voters, and those ballots must be received in the Town Clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.
Town Clerk Beth Klein said approximately 2,400 voters have requested mail ballots and that ballots are being mailed the week of March 9 to all who have requested them.
The deadline for requesting a mail ballot for the town election is Monday, March 23. You can apply for a mail ballot online at www.VoteInMA.com or request one from the clerk’s office. The Town Clerk included a mail ballot application form with the annual town census mailing.
Voters can request a mail ballot for a specific election or for all elections in a calendar year. Those requests expire at the end of the calendar year, so voters who want a mail ballot must apply every year.
Mail ballots must be received in the clerk’s office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Monday, March 30, to be counted. A ballot postmarked before Election Day will not be counted if it arrives after that deadline. To avoid mail delays, ballots can be deposited in the ballot dropbox at the rear of Town Hall, which is available 24/7. Mail ballots cannot be returned at the polling place on Election Day but should be put in the ballot dropbox.
Voters can track the status of their mail ballot at www.VoteInMA.com.
The number of voters requesting mail ballots this year is equal to the total number of voters in last year’s town election, when 2,411 total ballots were counted, 555 (23%) of them mail ballots. For the 2024 town election, 1,685 people voted by mail, 48.9% of the 3,390 total votes cast.
Voters who apply but do not receive a ballot in time can vote in person on Election Day, Monday, March 30, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. All precincts in Sudbury vote at the Fairbank Community Center, 40 Fairbank Rd. There is no in-person early voting for this election.
The last day to register to vote in the town election is Friday, March 20. You can check your registration status and register online to vote at www.VoteInMA.com.
