The Sudbury Public Schools (SPS) School Committee is down one member following the resignation of member Mandy Sim.
Sim resigned “effectively immediately” in a resignation letter submitted on Wednesday October 29.
In her resignation letter, Sim stated that she was no longer able to commit the time necessary to serve:
“Please take this notice that effective immediately I will be resigning my position on the Sudbury School Committee. It has been my great honor to serve on the Committee for the past 4+ years. As I am no longer able to commit the time required to best serve our community, it is my hope to fill the position with a candidate who can lead by putting the needs of ALL students at the forefront of all discussions and decisions leaving behind bias and personal agendas.
I’m incredibly prideful of our beautiful town filled with diverse minded citizens who hold our School Districts and School Committee’s to a high standard and I truly thank you for your votes, conversations, and trust in my voice.”
This is the second SPS School Committee resignation of 2025. Mary Stephens resigned in January. That resignation created a vacancy that was temporarily filled by Jessica McCready, who was appointed to serve until May of 2025.
Stephens’ seat was added to the ballot for the Annual Town Election in March. Betsy Sues won the race for that seat. She was sworn in back in May, and is currently serving for the remainder of that term. McCready won a full three-year seat during the same election, and is currently serving as Vice Chair of the committee.
Sim’s resignation comes at the tail end of her term, which was set to expire in May of 2026. The vacancy will, once again, be filled by an appointment. The process for filling vacancies includes a joint vote by the Sudbury Select Board and SPS School Committee.
The Town of Sudbury is expected to advertise the vacancy and provide instructions for applying to the position. The SPS School Committee is slated to discuss the appointment process during their November 3 meeting.
