State Representative and Sudbury resident Carmine Gentile recently received a special honor from The Guild for Human Services in recognition of his career-long advocacy for disability rights in the State House. The award was presented on May 26, 2026, during The Guild’s annual awards ceremony.
The formal dinner, attended by nearly 150 residents, staff, family members, and friends, was organized to recognize the progress individuals have made toward their personal goals. Representative Gentile, who represents Sudbury in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, spent the evening seated alongside residents and families from The Guild’s Sudbury house.

Residents of the Sudbury House directly assisted in presenting the advocacy award to the representative. As part of the honor, a resident of The Guild presented Gentile with an original artwork depicting a lion. The piece was created to represent “courage and protection of the pride”.
Before the presentation of individual certificates, Amy Sousa, Chief Executive Officer of The Guild, spoke to the audience about Gentile’s commitment to community involvement and his efforts to expand access to higher education. Sousa highlighted Gentile’s long-standing ties to the organization, noting:
“As the representative from Sudbury, Carmine has had a special relationship with The Guild. From early in his career, Carmine understood the harms of institutionalization and exclusion. He dedicated his entire public life to advancing human rights, education, and community inclusion for every single person. Not some, but all”.
Founded in 1952, The Guild for Human Services mission is to educate, empower, and encourage individuals with intellectual disabilities to reach their full potential, lead high-quality lives, and participate meaningfully in society. The organization serves 90 students ages 6 to 22 through a licensed special-education school and youth residential program. The Guild also operates 15 residential homes for 70 adults, which includes one home located in Sudbury.
