The Annual Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Community Awards returned to the Longfellow’s Wayside Inn on Wednesday, December 10. The evening was dedicated to recognizing the individuals and businesses that help make Sudbury a great place to live and do business.
This year’s roster of award winners highlights a diverse group of residents and organizations who have dedicated themselves to preserving Sudbury’s history, serving the community, and innovating for its future.
Business of the Year: Wayside Inn and Wayside Inn Foundation
Fittingly, the host venue itself is taking home top honors this year. The Chamber is recognizing the Wayside Inn not only for its centuries-old tradition of hospitality but for its ability to evolve. The Foundation is being applauded for recent community-building efforts, including the popular Beer Garden, AppleFest, and various other community gatherings that have revitalized the historic grounds.
Business Person of the Year: Mike Massarotti
Mike Massarotti of Massarotti Contracting will be honored for his blend of professional integrity and deep community engagement. The Chamber highlighted his exceptional work with the Sudbury Community Food Pantry, noting that this award recognizes “the meaningful impact that thoughtful, generous service can create.”
Citizen of the Year: Katina Fontes
Fontes was recognized for her broad leadership. From her work in education with Athina Education to her efforts in preserving the beloved Bearly Read Books, Fontes wears many hats. She also serves on the boards of the Goodnow Library, the Sudbury Meetinghouse, and the Sudbury Historical Society.
Distinguished Service Award: 4th of July Parade Committee
For over two decades, the 4th of July Parade has been a staple of Sudbury summers. The Chamber is honoring the team behind the magic for their 23+ years of outstanding service. The award will be presented to Mike Hamill, Libby Hamill, and Doug Haartz, representing the wider Parade Team, which includes:
