Dear neighbors,
As we approach the March 31st election, it’s crucial that we carefully consider who we elect to lead our community forward. Our social, political and economic institutions are facing significant challenges, and it is naive to think that Sudbury will be immune to these pressures. To safeguard the town that we love, and to ensure the sustainability of its institutions, we must elect leaders who genuinely prioritize Sudbury’s long-term interests.
Lisa Kouchakdjian and Radha Gargeya have demonstrated the necessary commitment for this role. They already lead this community with strength, courage, dignity, and respect. Their election to the Select Board will ensure continued and improved access to transparent and efficient public finances, robust public safety, accessible recreation, and excellent education.
I first met Lisa Kouchakdjian through her work to protect Sudbury’s most vulnerable populations from a proposed zoning bylaw regarding gun shops in town. Like so many Sudbury residents, the safety of our children and our elderly is deeply important to me. In our initial interactions, I saw in Lisa the sincerity, tenacity, and courage necessary to keep our community safe. Lisa’s recent action is just one example of a longstanding record of service including her time as a parent advocate for our families with neurodivergent students, her role as a School Committee member, and her prior experience on the Select Board, Lisa is a proven leader. She exercises clear judgment with the interests of all Sudbury residents in mind.
Lisa also brings a unique voice to Sudbury as a member of the “sandwich generation.” She is a mother of four children with varied learning styles and the daughter of a mother aging in place. With her lived experience, Lisa represents all residents with empathy and solidarity.
Likewise, Radha Gargeya shares his wealth of personal and professional experience with our town. Radha has a unique appreciation for both historical preservation and growth. Radha combines his keen reading of American history and thought with his training in computer science. The result is a thoughtful, practical, and congruous vision for development. During his time on the Lincoln Sudbury School Committee, Radha supported initiatives like the installation of the Lincoln-Sudbury solar canopy, subsidizing over $1 million of energy for the town, as well as upgrades to the technological and athletic infrastructure at Lincoln-Sudbury High School. His contributions have always been ambitious yet grounded in our town’s heritage of “joy, pride, and reflection.”
Throughout his tenure, Radha has consistently sought feedback from the school community and broader constituencies. In our personal interactions, I am struck by how closely and kindly Radha listens. He is generous with both his time and his expertise, and his vision for Sudbury aligns with the desires and needs of its residents. His leadership, therefore, is the natural product of his ability to listen and to act.
The upcoming town election on March 31st is vital to Sudbury’s future. We have the opportunity to elect two experienced public servants to listen to and lead us. Let’s ensure that the Select Board is prepared to navigate the challenges ahead with the long-term health of Sudbury at heart.
Please join me in supporting Lisa Kouchakdjian and Radha Gargeya!
With conviction,
Nancy Kodera
