After a two-year stint at the site of the former Stonegate Gardens, Weston Nurseries has announced it will close its Lincoln retail store. The decision marks the end of a short chapter for the 103-year-old company at this specific location as it shifts its focus toward its other Massachusetts hubs.
The move comes as the company exercises a termination option in its lease. Weston Nurseries originally took over the site in January 2024, following the nearly 25-year tenure of Stonegate Gardens.
Peter Mezitt, the fourth-generation president of Weston Nurseries, expressed gratitude to the local community while outlining a strategy to consolidate the brand’s footprint.
“It is important for our brand to be consistent throughout our company. This decision allows us to refocus our resources and energy on our other five locations in Hopkinton (retail and wholesale), Chelmsford, Hingham, and Middleborough, Massachusetts. We are excited to elevate the plant shopping experience in our other stores and help our customers succeed with their landscape projects.”

The Lincoln store was part of a broader expansion for the nursery, which is famous for its horticultural innovations, including the ubiquitous PJM Rhododendron.
The Stonegate property on South Road has long been a destination for local gardeners. While Weston Nurseries is departing, Mezitt expressed hope that the site will continue to serve the community’s green thumb.
“The Stonegate property has been a wonderful asset to the Lincoln community for many years, and we hope that another entity can establish their business in that location,” Mezitt said.
The company, founded in 1923, remains a family-owned staple of the New England gardening scene, and will continue the tradition as they move forward with five locations instead of six.
