Sudbury residents lead organization awarded up to $75,000 for women and girls across MetroWest
Two Sudbury residents are at the helm of a regional nonprofit that just received a significant vote of confidence from one of Greater Boston’s largest philanthropic foundations.
The Metrowest Women’s Fund (MWF) has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation, renewable annually for up to three years, representing a potential total investment of $75,000. Sudbury residents Rachel Sagan and Diahanne Lucas, leaders in the organization, are helping guide the fund through what they call a transformational investment.
“We are honored to receive this meaningful support from the Cummings Foundation,” said Sagan, Co-Founder and Co-Director of the MWF. “This grant will strengthen our ability to identify and meet the challenges faced by women and girls in our community. Their support allows us to plan with stability and focus on delivering results.”
The funding will support the MWF’s work removing barriers to education for women from low-income households, addressing the mental health needs of girls, and promoting safety from violence. Those are issues the organization says are both critical and underserved across its 34-town service area, which includes Sudbury.
Founded in 2019, the MWF has awarded nearly $794,000 in grants to nonprofits providing services for women and girls across MetroWest Massachusetts. The organization focuses on community building, education, and strategic grant-making throughout the region.
The Cummings Foundation’s annual grant program targets Massachusetts nonprofits serving Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk counties. The foundation, which has awarded more than $650 million to Greater Boston nonprofits since its founding, reinvests in communities where its affiliate, Cummings Properties, owns and manages commercial real estate.
For Sudbury residents, the MWF’s success hits close to home, not just because of the local leadership, but because Sudbury is one of the 34 MetroWest communities the organization actively serves.
