Ravi Simon, the Democratic nominee for State Representative in the 13th Middlesex District and Sudbury resident, has secured the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Massachusetts.
The union, representing 26,000 educators, librarians, nurses, and support staff statewide, announced its support for Simon’s campaign to succeed outgoing Representative Carmine Gentile, who is retiring after serving since 2014.
The ATF announcement noted “From his experience as a Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee Member to his years advocating for the Framingham Public Library, Ravi Simon is a strong voice for our public schools, libraries, and the families they serve,” said AFT Massachusetts President Jessica Tang.”
The AFT Massachusetts represents educators serving the district, including the Wayland Library Staff Association and staff at the Assabet Valley Vocational/Technical District, which serves students from Sudbury and Marlborough. The 13th Middlesex District currently comprises Sudbury, and parts of Concord, Lincoln, Marlborough, and Wayland.
Simon emphasized his local roots and commitment to public education in the announcement. “As the product of Massachusetts public schools and a School Committee member, I am especially honored to receive the endorsement of AFT Massachusetts,” Simon said. “I look forward to partnering closely with them to fight both for strong public schools and libraries, as well as a Massachusetts that teachers, librarians, and other working people can afford.”
Simon’s campaign highlights his tenure on the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School (L-S) School Committee, which included two years as Chair. He highlighted his work negotiating teachers’ contracts, instituting a ban on classroom cell phones, and improving committee transparency. He is also a graduate of L-S himself.
Simon enters the general election with backing from state leadership, including endorsements from Governor Maura Healey, Lieutenant Governor Kimberley Driscoll, State Senator Jamie Eldridge, and Representative Simon Cataldo.
The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
