The Sudbury Historical Commission announces that the original Maynard Wheeler gravestone has been restored and returned to the Revolutionary War Cemetery.

Maynard Wheeler was born in Sudbury on March 15, 1803. and died in Boston on October 2, 1825. He was the son of Caleb and Rebeccah Wheeler and the grandson of Rev. Israel Loring. The stone was broken into 3 pieces in 1976 when a car veered off Concord Road and hit the stone wall. A new stone was installed in 1977, but the old stone remained in the DPW garage until it was moved to the newly renovated Hearse House in 2007.
The original Wheeler stone was repaired and placed behind the new stone by Ta Mara and Ricardo Conde of Historic Gravestone Services. This restoration is part of an ongoing effort by the Historical Commission to maintain Sudbury’s historic cemeteries with the help of Community Preservation Funds. The Wheeler stones may be located by referring to the Revolutionary War Cemetery kiosk.
The newly updated kiosk was installed this year after extensive research and planning by the Sudbury Historical Society and the Sudbury Historical Commission.
