The Massachusetts Attorney General’s office has officially approved four general bylaw amendments passed by Sudbury voters at the May, 2026, Annual Town Meeting. The approval, detailed in a letter dated August 10, 2026, clears the way for the Town to implement changes regarding capital planning, the Council on Aging, inactive revolving funds, and local kennel regulations.
According to the official communication from Assistant Attorney General Tasheena M. Davis, the State has signed off on Articles 15, 20, 21, and 23 from the spring warrant.
Here is a breakdown of the newly approved bylaw changes, as detailed in the Town Meeting warrant:
Article 15 – This one closed out inactive revolving funds.
Article 20 – This article adjusted the budget thresholds for projects that must be reviewed by the Capital Improvement Advisory Committee; shifting their attention to larger capital requests.
Article 21 – The article added alternate seats to the Council on Aging, and removed prior term limits.
Article 23 – This one brought the Town’s animal bylaws into compliance with “Ollie’s Law.” The AG advised the Town to discuss the application of this section with Town Counsel to ensure it does not infringe on those state-granted appeal rights.
