Brad Crozier, who served as Sudbury Public Schools’ (SPS) superintendent since 2018 before announcing his departure this past April, has been selected by the Carlisle School Committee to serve as that district’s interim superintendent, according to the Carlisle Mosquito.
The appointment, assuming a contract is successfully negotiated, would give Crozier a soft landing after a turbulent end to his tenure in Sudbury. Crozier announced on April 13 that he would leave his position at the end of this school year, departing in the middle of a contract that had multiple years left. His exit came amid growing discussions about the SPS School Committee that culminated in a vote of no confidence at a Special Town Meeting on May 20.
The Carlisle School Committee also plans to conduct a search for a permanent superintendent in late 2026. The search had its twists and turns: during the regularly scheduled May 13 School Committee meeting, the committee voted to not move forward with either finalist, before ultimately landing on Crozier this month. Meanwhile, Crozier had also been in the running for a permanent superintendent position in Andover, but didn’t get that one. The Andover School Committee ultimately chose their current Interim Superintendent, Keith Taverna. According to an announcement from Andover Public Schools, Taverna “brings more than 17 years of experience in public education” and “had successfully led the district as interim superintendent since February.”
The Andover search was not without drama. A former Wayland athletic director who won a federal whistleblower lawsuit had urged the Andover School Committee not to hire Crozier according to Andover News.
Back in Sudbury, Assistant Superintendent Annette Doyle will take the reins as interim superintendent for the 2026–27 school year in July. The SPS School Committee praised her “thoughtful communication, steady leadership, and commitment to supporting students, staff, and families.”
